How Do I Become a Real Estate Agent?

Here are the main steps to become a real estate agent in D.C. and Maryland.

Do you want to become a real estate agent? These are the four main steps it takes to become an agent in Washington, D.C. and Maryland.

1. Take an approved 60-hour licensing course. This course can be done either online or in person. If you’d like to take it online, you can follow this link.

2. Take the final exam for your course. Good luck!

We recommend interviewing at least two to three brokerages to find one that’s a great fit for you.

3. Schedule your official licensing exam with PSI. You’ll have to sign up for either D.C. or Maryland, depending on where you want to be licensed. PSI will generally have you take this exam in person; it will be proctored and timed. There will be a national portion of the exam, as well as your state or area’s portion.

4. Find a brokerage to affiliate with to activate your license. You can move on to this step when you’ve passed your licensing exam. We recommend interviewing at least two to three brokerages to find one that’s a great fit for you. Take a look at their training and mentorship programs and whether the environment will fit your needs.
